The Humanitarian Water Engineering (HWE) intensive course offers participants an opportunity to gain essential knowledge and skills on safe water supply in humanitarian emergencies. The course covers the design and operation of water supply systems in humanitarian response including source water selection, water quality, water treatment, distribution and the safe water chain, and outbreak preparedness and response.
Applications are now open for the Winter 2023 HWE course, which will run from 2 February to 28 April 2023. The course is structured into a pre-reading phase followed by an intensive course phase consisting of five 2-week technical units. The total time commitment required for the course is at least 68 hours over 12 weeks (approximately 6 hours per week). A certificate will be offered to participants who successfully complete the course.Â
We strongly encourage applications from practising humanitarian professionals who want to deepen their technical understanding of safe water supply. Subsidies are available for participants from low- and middle-income countries and for NGO, INGO, and UN employees.
Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis beginning in January 2023. Selected candidates will be invited to register for the course. Enrolment is capped at 42 participants and registration will be on a first–come, first–served basis. The last day to apply is 27 January 2023.
