Ceramic water filters - What might be some unforeseen technical problems?

Ceramic Educators and Enthusiasts, do you see unforeseen technical problems in the production in sub-Saharan Africa, of ceramic water filters?  Getting those in need of safe drinking water familiarized with the need is another problem.  The question here is about the technical issues.

Skilled potters are ubiquitous in sub-Saharan Africa, getting their neighbors water containers.  Once trained in quick production techniques of models and molds as well as improved kilns, these potters could work on production of candle water filters as well as water filters of granulated ceramic media.  The filters should go through a second step of silver treatment, by a co-worker who is knowledgeable in chemistry and keeps good records.  Please see the accompanying presentation.
