Experiences with Poly-Aluminium Chloride (PAC) vs. Alum in Coagulation?

Hello everyone,

We're reviewing our chemical dosing for potable water treatment at our plant. We've traditionally used Alum (aluminum sulfate) as the primary coagulant but are considering a switch to Poly-Aluminium Chloride (PAC).

From our initial tests, PAC seems to offer better floc formation at lower doses and works better across a wider pH range. The sludge volume also appears slightly lower.

Has anyone here made a similar switch? I'm particularly interested in:

Long-term cost comparison (including sludge handling).

Any observed changes in final water turbidity or filter run times.

Potential downsides or operational challenges you encountered.

Thanks in advance for sharing your insights!
